Thinking of women in jazz, we all too often think of singers and famous voices. But women have always been jazz artists in every respect: playing every instrument, writing arrangements and songs, and leading their own bands. This collection, joyfully put together by Laura Cesar, played by JazzIMpuls either performing as a duo or a quartet, takes us from the 1920s to the work of contemporary women composers. Thanks to this inspiring collection we now enjoy music from women in jazz, formerly underrated or seldom heard, fully aware, with open minds and open hearts.

Windrose
The windrose, the predecessor of the compass rose, is the perfect symbol for Laura Cesar and her passionate journey through the realm of music. Inspired by sound from all over the world, her musical sensitivity takes guidance from her very own windrose. It is smooth sailing with the fourteen pieces of the CD, whose different musical styles unfold like the symbolical petals of the windrose, taking us from "East to West", from the southern blues to "Northern Light", alive with Laura’s versatility and her band’s feeling for the essential groove.
